Helmed by Shonali Bose, The Sky is Pink is inspired by the real-life story of Aisha Chaudhary, who was diagnosed with an autoimmune illness features Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim, and Rohit Suresh Saraf in lead roles.
In an interview with Bombay Times, the filmmaker opened up how Priyanka Chopra burst into tears on the sets of The Sky is pink she said, “Priyanka had heard me calling my Ishan when I spoke about him and asked me, “Can I call him Ishlu in this scene?” I just smiled ear to ear. Another emotional shoot was when she had to break down after a scene. After I called “cut” I hugged her and she couldn’t stop crying.
“She kept whispering, “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I know now what it means to lose a child. I am so sorry for Ishlu.” I continued holding her.”
After the event, the Margarita with a Straw director penned a moving post for her son. A part of that reads, ” My Ishlu.,Your 9th deathday today. I was at a big event for The Sky is Pink at the Toronto International Film Festival and spoke a lot about death and what you taught me from the day of your funeral. How you enlightened me and made me understand its profundity and how you made me so at ease with it. I can’t thank you enough for continuing to watch over me and hold me in the palm of your hand.”
The Sky is Pink had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival is slated to release on October 11, 2019.
